Journal 01 - Proof - 1-5

My teacher, Barron Storey, taught the difference between keeping a "sketchbook" and a journal. He taught a few things about visual journalism and tied in a lesson: "Lower the claim and raise the proof." In retrospect, many of these drawings aren't "nice" but say something more about the time it was recorded. Many of these entries are my attempts in lowering the claim and raising the proof. In fact, the ones that look "nicer" were less engaging to me.

Pinky Swear - The Traffic Lord

I did this for a zine called Pinky Swear. The theme was childhood misconceptions. I used to think that there was somebody under the intersections that controlled the traffic lights. The idea still entertains me actually.

DEBUG Magazine: Rickshaw Hustle

I did this illustration for Debug Magazine. It's a local San Jose Magazine that cover really awesome topics. The next issue's theme is struggle. Look for it within the next month or two and read some of the articles. This illustration is about how these Rickshaw Bikers are making cash.

Hiked in the Muir Woods over this weekend. I didn't get a chance to paint anything but the team was focused on getting to the beach, which we never reached. It was a really long hike. We had to turn around before it got dark and the national monument closed. Next time.
